Serum no 5 Swatch And Review

Hello my beautiful readers! Sorry I've been mia for a few days. I had some family in town for two weeks straight and we were running nonstop the entire time they were here. I haven't had time to do near the amount of swatching and blogging that I wanted to this week because of that, and I am completely exhausted from their visit. I'm hoping to be able to put a huge dent in my massive pile of things to do this week though. Fingers crossed!

With that being said, today's post features a wonderful brand, Serum no 5, by an equally, if not more wonderful maker, Victoria. I'm so happy she was part of Cocktails & Colors this year at cosmoprof because I always enjoy and look forward to seeing her every year. She's such a very sweet person, and her heart and beautiful soul show up in all of her amazing creations. If you'd like to learn a little more about Victoria and Serum no 5 as well as see some beautiful polishes, continue reading!

How did you decide on the name Serum no 5?
When I started this business, I knew I wanted to have some charitable aspect to it (I still make monthly donations), so my bf and I grabbed a thesaurus and we came upon "serum" which can be seen as a potion or elixir to cure an ailment. The No. 5 came from my name and my bf's. V in Roman numerals means 5 and there just happens to be 5 letters in the bf's name. He's the one that actually encouraged me to start this business.

How long have you been in business?
Serum has been around for 3 years this month.

What can we expect from Serum no 5 in the future?
You can expect much more glow! Actually, in the fall I'll be releasing some vampy holo glow in the darks. It's about time, right?!
I also plan to expand the bath and body care items too with more scents for the serum scrubs (sugar scrub cubes), cuticle serum (cuticle oil) and skin serum (lotion bar)

Besides your own brand, what is your favorite indie (polish, body care, or other)?
There are so many great indies out there. I'd have to say some of my favorites are Cirque Colors, Girly Bits, ILNP, KB Shimmer, Lacquer Lust and Polished by KPT

(Serum no 5's display at Cocktails & Colors 2015)

First up is, "Yule Light Up My Life", which is an awesome rainbow glitter topper that glows in the dark! I love the crazy mix of glitters in the polish. It makes it fun to pair with many different base colors. I'm usually really good at capturing the glow of Victoria's polishes in my pictures, but for some reason my camera did not want to cooperate like it usually does, so my glow pictures did not come out like they usually do. I assure you though that the glow of all of these polishes is much brighter in person. My camera just hated me this day. I used one coat of "Yule Light Up My Life" over Zoya "Rooney" for my pictures. Formula was smooth with no issues to report. Can't wait to pair this with other colors as well.

Next up is "Kiwi Glow Now?", which is a bright green glow in the dark polish that has a little bit of shimmer and what looks like holo flakies in it. I'm really bad at descriptions, but regardless... its beautiful. The glow on this is perfection as well. Its the only one out of the three glow in the darks in this post that cooperated with my camera. Formula on this was good. I used three coats with top coat for my pictures.

(Glow shot)

Next up is "Infrared", which is a bright pink/orange/red glow in the dark polish. This polish is very pretty, and I don't have another color like it in my collection. Victoria states on the listing for this polish that it may require longer exposure to a charging source due to the pigment used for this polish. This may be the reason I was having such a terrible time trying to get a good glow shot. When you do get this baby glowing though, I'm in love because it glows pink! The pigment is also so intense with this one that I did have a tiny bit of staining, but nothing really bad, just make sure you use a good base coat with it and you should have no problems :-) Other than that the formula was great! I almost only needed one coat, but I ended up using two coats with top coat for my pictures.

(Indoor Light Box)

(Glow shot, kinda lol)

The last polish I have to share with you today is "On Sight", which is a reflective topper that has the same effect as her "Flashing Lights" polish, which you can see my review of by clicking here. This beauty has multichrome flakies though too and I love the way this polish looks over black. These toppers are meant to be used without top coat to be able to see the reflective effect. I read after I swatched this that you can still apply it over base colors, but to be sure to use a matte top coat in between your base and this topper. So unfortunately, my swatch over black is just that. Nothing special, and I didn't think to see if it was still reflective. I also added top coat to try and capture the shift in the flakies. Formula was good on this one as well. No issues to report. I used three coats alone with no top coat, as well as one coat over black with top coat for my pictures.

So what are your thoughts on these polishes? They are all currently still available in the Serum no 5 shop here if you want to purchase any of them. I think "Kiwi Glow Now" and "Yule Light Up My Life" are my two favorites. Let me know in the comments below some of your all time favorite Serums. Be sure to follow @serumno5 on Instagram and to like their Facebook page here to keep up to date on all things Serum. I hope you enjoyed today's post! Until next time, happy polishing!

Glisten & Glow Cocktails Anyone? Collection

Hello my beautiful readers!! Last weekend was cosmoprof north america here in Las Vegas. For the past couple of years, indie makers and bloggers have had unofficial meet ups to get together and network and have a good time. This year, the big event was Cocktails & Colors that was hosted by four amazing ladies. Jill of Glisten & Glow, Sara of Cupcake Polish, Missi of Different Dimension, and Linda of Nail Vinyls. I walked away with lots of goodies from these ladies, as well as many other talented and wonderful ladies, and I can't wait to share them all with you.

Today's post though is all about the wonderful Jill of Glisten & Glow. Jill's new collection that she debuted at Cocktails & Colors was the Cocktails Anyone? Collection, and that is the collection that I have to share with you today. This collection consists of 8 extreme holographic polishes that will blow your holo lovin mind. Jill was sweet enough to give me a code that you can use as well to get 15% off of your entire order which is CPNA2015. This collection will be going up for pre-order Tuesday 7/21 at 7pm EST and will launch on 7/24 also at 7pm EST in the Glisten & Glow shop here

I also wanted to do a fun little Q&A session with each of the indies that I'll be featuring on my blog so that both you and I can get to know them a little bit better! Readers, meet Jill of Glisten & Glow.

How did you decide on the name Glisten & Glow?

The name Glisten & Glow came about while I was watching the soap opera the Young & The Restless. My grandmother became blind in her elder years and she had watched the soap since it's start in the early 70's, it was something she didn't need to see to follow along, because she knew most of the voices since the cast hadn't changed much. I would watch it online at night when I came home from college or work or whatever else I was doing in life and then we would talk about the episode the next day together on the phone. It was "our" thing. On Y & R the fictional Abbott family owns a cosmetics company called Jabot and many many years ago they had a product they launched called Glo by Jabot and I loved that, it just went together! So I when starting the Glisten & Glow, I wanted to use the Glow and need something else to match that and be catchy, so I said if you're not glowing, you better be glistening! and then it just fit.

How long have you been in business?

Glisten & Glow was established in March of 2010, with our line of customizable bath and body products. We started distribution of our bath and body products to spas/salons for back bar and retail in 2011. Later in that year we branched out into nail care, Glisten & Glow HK Girl Top Coat, Stuck on Blu! Base coat and distribution of several brands of mainstream polish. In August 2013, I left my full time job in corporate America and ran Glisten & Glow full time. By October of the same year, we moved into a commercial location and several of our nail care and polish are currently being stocked at 27 e-retailers worldwide. Glisten & Glow Nail Lacquer began production in May of 2014.

What is your current best selling product?

Besides Glisten & Glow HK Girl top coat I would say our Nail & Cuticle Balm has been the next best selling item followed closely by CTRL-ALT-DEL our scented and oil infused latex barrier.

What can we expect from Glisten & Glow in the future?

HOLOS and more HOLOS! look for growth in the colored nail polish area as well as the seasonal fragrances in nail care products!

Besides your brand, what is your favorite indie brand? (polish, body products, or other)

I have so many faves in this business, I love Cupcake Polish, Different Dimension, Nail Vinyls, Elevation Polish, Pahlish, Bliss Polish, Crowstoes, Painted Polish by Lexi. We could go on forever here!

If you'd like to know even more about Glisten & Glow, Nail It Magazine did a great interview with Jill last year too... you can find that arcticle here.

(Jill's display at Cocktails & Colors)

First up is "Silver Streak", which is a super intense silver/grey holographic polish. I am extremely amazed at how holo all of these polishes are just indoors. When you step outside with these babies though, its a whole new level of holo awesomeness!! Love the intensity! Formula on this was perfect! Glides on super smooth. I used three thin coats plus HK Girl top coat, also by Glisten & Glow for my pictures.

(Indoor Light Box)

(Outdoor Direct Sunlight)

Next up is "Peach Bellini", which is a orange/peach linear holographic polish. This one is also a super holo that you can see the holo indoors and that blows your socks off in the sunlight. Formula is great on this as well. I used three thin coats with HK Girl top coat for my pictures.

(Indoor Light Box)

(Outdoor Direct Sunlight)

Next up is "Grape Groove", which is a light lavender linear holographic polish. So freakin pretty!!! These polishes photographed so nicely in my light box! I just can't handle the gorgeousness in each one! Formula was perfect and smooth on this one as well. I used three thin coats with HK Girl top coat for my pictures.

(Indoor Light Box)

(Outdoor Direct Sunlight)

Next up is one of my favorites, "Hypnotiq Hurricane", which is a teal linear holographic polish. The mermaid in me is in love with all things teal, add intense holo to that, and you've got me hooked! This polish is perfect! Great formula, gorgeous color, holo to die for! Perfect combo! I used three thin coats with HK Girl top coat for my pictures.

(Indoor Light Box)

(Outdoor Direct Sunlight)

Next up is "Blue Hawaiian", which is a light blue linear holographic polish. This polish is super pretty, especially if you are a blue lover! Might I suggest that you need this baby if you are looking for the perfect light blue? I mean, its knock your socks of pretty both indoors and out. Formula was great on this one as well. I used three thin coats with HK Girl top coat for my pictures.

(Indoor Light Box)

(Outdoor Direct Sunlight)

Next up is another favorite of mine from this collection, "Raspberry Margarita", which is a bright beautiful pink linear holographic polish. This was the only one out of the eight that I got away with only two thin coats of. Being a lover of pink as much as I am a lover of teal, I will tell you that you absolutely need this polish in your collection. I loved this one so much that I wore it for an entire day before taking it off to swatch the next polish. With how pigmented this polish is, I was a little concerned that it may stain a little, but I am happy to report that after wearing it all day, I had zero staining at removal! Win! Formula was nice and smooth with this one as well. As stated, I used two thin coats with top coat for my pictures.

(Indoor Light Box)

(Outdoor Direct Sunlight)

Next up is "Midori Sour", which is a chartreuse linear holographic polish. I am in L.O.V.E with this polish! It is just so gorgeous! I don't think I have any chartreuse polishes in my collection, but I can promise you, that if I do, this is my new favorite! I just can't stop staring at my nails with this on. I used three thin coats, but two coats would probably have been okay on this one. I also added HK Girl top coat for my pictures as well.

(Indoor Light Box)

(Outdoor Direct Sunlight)

The last polish in this collection is "Tequila Sunrise", which is a red/copper linear holographic polish. This color is not normally a color that I would go for, but I'm pretty sure that I will be wearing this particular polish a lot. Its just that gorgeous. Formula was great on this as well. Three thin coats, but I could have probably gotten away with just two for this one. I again used HK Girl top coat for my pictures below.

(Outdoor Direct Sunlight)

Well, what are your thoughts on the new Cocktails Anyone? Collection? Are there any that you just cannot wait to have in your hands? Remember, the pre-order for this collection will be Tuesday 7/21 at 7pm EST and they will launch on 7/24 at 7pm EST in the Glisten & Glow shop. Sweet Heart Polish Celebration Collection

Hello readers!! I've got another awesome Disney polish post for you today. Today's polishes are the new "Hidden Mickey" glitters from Sweet Heart Polish that make up the Celebration collection. This collection releases today at 9am PST. So after you check out my review, be sure to head over to the Sweet Heart Polish shop and pick up yours. This collection is really fun, and since they are "hidden Mickey" polishes, I decided to swatch them over colors that showcase them, and also over matching bases so that they're "hidden" :-) Let's not waste anymore time though, let's get to the polish.

First up is "Main Street USA", which is a clear base glitter topper with different red holo glitters and red holo mickey glitters. I love how these polishes are all the same color glitters. Pairing them with different base colors is that much easier because of that. This one was a fun one to pair. I decided to pair it with China Glaze "Recycle", and Julep "Glenn". I ended up using two coats over each color for my pictures. Formula was good, with a little fishing needed to get the mickey glitters out. Love.

(Indoor Light Box over "Recycle")

(Indoor Light Box over "Glenn")

Next up is "Frontierland", which is a clear based glitter topper with different gold holo glitters and gold holo mickey glitters. When I think of Frontierland I think of mining for gold, so gold glitters I feel represent Frontierland perfectly. Formula was good on this one as well, with just a little fishing needed for the mickey glitters. I used two coats over OPI "Skip The Gift Wrap" and two coats over China Glaze "Mingle With Kringle" for my pictures.

(Indoor Light Box over "Skip The Gift Wrap")

Next we have "Adventureland", which is a clear based glitter topper with different holo blue glitters and holo mickey glitters. There's so many fun things in Adventureland, but the best is probably the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. That's the first thing I thought of when Cassandra told me the name of this one was "Adventureland". It's perfect! Formula was good on this one, but it was the one polish I had to do the most fishing for mickey glitters with. Other than that though, I like it a lot. I did two coats over white, as well as two coats over China Glaze "Frostbite" for my pictures.

Next up is "Fantasyland", which is a clear based glitter topper with different purple holo glitters and purple holo Mickey glitters. When I think of fantasyland, I think of my favorite princess Ariel and how I absolutely cannot leave there until I see her. Purple is a color that comes to mind immediately when thinking of Ariel, so I love that this purple glitter topper is named "Fantasyland". Formula on this was good, with only a little bit of fishing required for those Mickey glitters. I paired this topper with two coats over Zoya "Dot", and two coats over Wet n Wild "Who Is Ultra Violet?".

(Indoor Light Box over "Dot")

(Indoor Light Box over "Who Is Ultra Violet?")

The last polish in the collection is my favorite one, "Tomorrowland", which is a clear based glitter topper with different silver holo glitters and silver holo Mickey glitters. Silver holo always has a place in my heart and I love any polish with silver holo in it. So with this one being nothing but silver holo, I was immediately in love. Formula was good, with only a little bit of fishing required for the Mickey glitters. I did two coats over black and also two coats over China Glaze "Silver Lining" for my pictures.
